Biscuits and Berries catering at Mile High Station -Denver wedding photographer

Our friend Laura from Biscuits and Berries called us up the other day hoping we could spare a little time on Valentine's Day Eve to photograph a stunning wedding they were decorating and catering at Mile High Station. Mile High Station is such a unique venue that I love to photograph and Biscuits and Berries is second to none when it comes to awesome food and classy presentation so we jumped at the chance knowing it would be portfolio work for all three of us!

Here's an image of Mile High Station from a previous wedding we photographed there....the windows here allow tons of natural light in the evening which makes it so great to photograph:



Biscuits and Berries set out enormous king's tables and decorated them with fresh red roses and candied apples. It looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland!







One of the really great features of Mile High Station is the second floor balcony...great for cocktail hour, entertaining large parties and aerial shots like this:



The bar on the main floor was a great place to set up the cake, which was decorated like a train. Some Chinese lanterns hung from above and I loved the idea to string up the invitation responses where family and friends had penned cute pieces of marriage advice on the cards.









Carving the bride and groom's name in a tree trunk accentuated the woodsy altar with aspen trees and Christmas lights:



Of course, all the decorations don't matter much unless there is some mouth-watering fare to put on the plates so here is a sampling of the lineup:









And finally...I was able to stop a few of the friendly staff for a photograph....great job guys, see you next time!

Mark Schultz live in concert - Colorado Springs event photographer

Friday night we got to see Christian recording artist Mark Schultz in concert at Rocky Mountain Calvary.



Mark put on a great show and we especially enjoyed hearing the stories of the inspiration for his songs and his life experience. We got to meet Mark in the VIP room and make photographs of Mark visiting with the guests.

193rd Military Police Battalion departure ceremony - Colorado Springs event photographer

Throughout 2009 we tried to get together with other photographers in the community to photograph a military homecoming like our friend Todd has done in Nebraska, but even with Fort Carson nearby and our number on the PR staff's speed dial, we haven't yet had the opportunity.

For this reason, we were excited and honored when we had the opportunity to be the official photographers for the 193rd Military Police Battalion's departure ceremony in Castle Rock.

One of my favorite parts was the 101st Army Band playing 'You're a Grand Old Flag'. The atmosphere was quite patriotic!

Karch Kiraly at Big House Sports - Colorado Springs event photographer

Today we had the pleasure of meeting volleyball legend Karch Kiraly! Karch is the assistant coach for the USA women's volleyball team. Since the team was in town to practice this weekend, The owners of Big House Sports invited Karch to com out and speak with the youth teams.

The kids watched a video about Karch -- it's hard to believe that the peak of his career was happening before many of them were born!

Karch is really positive, humble and down to earth...it was a great opportunity for everyone who showed up.

lunch at the Antlers Hilton - Colorado Springs corporate event photographer

One of the highlights for us in the business of running the business is getting together with industry professionals at the HSMAI luncheon each month. Yesterday was no exception as we returned to the classy Antlers Hilton in downtown Colorado Springs.

Jean-Marie floral designs provided these striking centerpieces:



Chef Ryan started us out with a light, fresh mix of heirloom tomatoes and Brie...





...followed by some delicious Chilean Sea Bass. DeAnna isn't a big fan of seafood and we don't have it at home or when we eat out so having some really great seafood is always a big treat for me. Yum!



And for dessert...strawberry ice cream with a caramelized marshmallow shell. Double yum!



So who thinks up all this terrific food that we see at classy hotels and swanky wedding receptions? That actually was the topic of the day as Monica from Hyatt Hotels discussed food trends and influences for the food and beverage industry. It was interesting to see how there are just as many concerns about being new and fresh in the food industry as there are for florists and dress makers! I especially loved seeing how the trend of 'comfort food' has transformed grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup into a grilled panini with tomato bisque gourmet meal!

1920s party at Terrace Gardens - Denver corporate event photographer

Saturday night we photographed a terrific 1920s-themed party for some of our corporate clients at Terrace Gardens at Ken Caryl.

Our friends at Rocky Mountain Connections did a spectacular job of setting the theme for a retro night club:



We even had a hand-rolled cigar station:



The band Tuxedo Junction kept us going with music to set the mood like we were in a high-class club just like you see in the movies, with tuxedos and dancers to top it off:









My favorite was the Frank Sinatra impersonator, what a great show!
