Photographing President Bush - Colorado event photographer

Last Saturday we had the unique opportunity to meet and photograph George W. Bush. The former president was visiting Colorado Springs to speak at the Colorado Springs Christian Schools benefit dinner and fundraiser. Over 1,100 guests attended the event at Broadmoor Hall.

The preparation for the event was the hardest part -- weeks of planning guided by the event team including diagraming photography locations, site visits to the Broadmoor and security background checks all went into making sure everything went off without a hitch. Secret Service agents greeted us on the day of the event, we had to come in very early, and gave us bright orange security badges, allowing us up-close access.

We were only allowed to photograph during the first three minutes of President Bush's speech however we came out with quite a few terrific images. Ultimately his office only approved four photographs for publication, so while they're not our three favorites or the best in our opinion, here's a little taste of the night.

Prior to the speech, we set up our photography station to photograph VIPs with the president and got to meet him ourselves. He was friendly and enjoyed speaking with the guests, especially when asked about his golf game! He took the time to meet with a number of Colorado Springs police officers, greeting each of them by name. We had a chance to grab a quick photograph with him as the line wrapped up:
