Air Force Thunderbirds

Every year for the Air Force Academy graduation, the Thunderbirds perform for the graduating class. I haven't missed a show yet but I'm always disappointed with my pictures because these guys are so incredible in person, it's hard to capture it in pictures. Anyway, here's my tribute to the Thunderbirds, the graduating class of 2007 and our armed forces everywhere.

Colorado style limo!

Now this is a truly Colorado-style limo! I caught this down the road from a wedding I photographed last week -- it wasn't for our party so I'm not sure where it came from. I know these guys (http://www.limousine-denver.com/excursion-limousines.htm) have some Excursion limos but this one appears to be jacked up too -- a real treat for the monster truck wedding couple! hahaha... Oh well, maybe I can find them for the next ski trip with our college buddies....

Happy Memorial Day

And their country is grateful
For it sent them into harm’s way
And they went, because it was their duty to go
Now it is our duty to remember
And to never forget

May 26 wedding at St. James

This weekend we traveled out to Nebraska to be with Todd and photograph Adrienne & Lance's wedding. We had a gorgeous spring day -- starting out nice & cool in the 60s and then the sun came out for their portraits at the park after the ceremony. The early time change this year made it weird to have daylight well past 9pm there!

I started out with the groom while he cleaned up his sweet new Infinity G35 to be the getaway car...

Couples who plan extra time into their day for preparation and relaxed portraits are rewarded with images like this:

Adrienne was stunning and just as relaxed:

We got some serious bubbles going!

A few minutes at the park for portraits after the ceremony were well-spent...

Yummy!

More air guitar this week...the best man took lessons from some of the bride's friends who really were musicians.

Now it's back to album designing and wrapping up orders as we're heading out of town again soon -- next weekend we'll be in Atlanta!

Kepner Educational Excellence Program

Last November we photographed Carrie's wedding in Denver. At the time she told us she was involved with youth programs in a low-income Denver neighborhood where she taught school but it wasn't until yesterday's Denver Post article and last night's event we photographed for her did we get a real chance to undertstand what it was all about:

The kids were a ton of fun to be with and were exteremely enthusiastic about working hard - sometimes for years -- to save up for their trips to Washington DC and Europe as part of their classroom learning and life experiences.

We're feverishly working on the pictures on the laptop as we drive to Nebraska for a wedding this weekend...we'll have some here shortly!

creative posing techniques 101

Hahha...a friend just sent this to me and I had to laugh. I figure either the wedding party is a little tipsy or the photographer was confused --- trust me it happens, I've been there.

On the other hand, this is a little more what our wedding pictures look like:

You deserve memories like this!

Colorado is so beautiful!

I feel so blessed that I get to photograph weddings up in the mountains week after week here in Colorado. We just crossed a couple more dates off our calendar for late summer/early fall weddings, both in gorgeous locations and on the way home tonight I was treated to this view along Hwy 83.

I only had my crummy cell phone camera with me -- maybe I should carry my big camera around more and be a nature photographer too! ;)

May 19 wedding at Christies of Genesee

What a gorgeous day for a mountain wedding!
We had a great time with Munira & Chris. Their attendants were a blast and their families very warm and wonderful! Thanks to Christies of Genesee for providing a beautiful backdrop for the wedding and reception site.

The cake was delicious! Oh, it was beautiful before it was cut for serving too!

Chris, Munira & their attendents partied skillfully. We saw some solid exhibitions of air guitar technique!

graduation announcements

We just put together these cool announcements for one of our seniors this year. We can do small and large-run press printing so these were made as really cool 5"x7" glossy postcards with the graduation party specifics on the back, then they were put in the included envelopes to be mailed out to all her family and friends -- much more fun and personal than the stationary catalog they show you at school!

hard labor!

Our backs are sore, our palms are calloused and our arms aching. No, we didn't just finish photographing another marathon wedding, we're doing the landscaping for the back yard of our home/studio. By mid-summer we'll have even more places for portraits in the lush, green grass, and sunshine on the fence posts. In the meantime we're getting a true workout and learning the value of some hard work. If it sounds like we're wincing in pain as we pick up the phone, we probably are! ;)

Another awesome album!

Danelle and Nick had a stylish mountain wedding in Buffalo Creek -- up in the mountains west of Conifer. We had a great time putting together this custom album just for them and can't wait for the final production!

interesting book

I just finished reading this book the other day -- 'just finished' is a funny term with this one though as you can probably finish it in one or two sittings like I did. The concepts aren't really new but the way they are presented is. Basically -- the way you feel and act toward others has a large impact on how they relate back to you. Not exactly earth shattering but a good Harvard Business School type approach to how much influence you have on the people around you by how you yourself are acting.

This has huge impact on everything from relationships at hone to relationships with clients. I hear so often that some people were put off by this photographer or offended by that photographer. I think sometimes it can be tempting for a photographer to think they are some elite artist that is above other people and sometimes this mindset makes them think that other people are below them or at the very least, full of annoying questions. I hope to always be as genuine toward our customers as possible and never put myself above them -- this book makes it clear that people can see right through that -- or at least react to it.

Give it a read -- for $10 at Amazon, it's definitely worth it.

Happy Mother's Day!

How did you find the energy, Mom
To do all the things you did,
To be teacher, nurse and counselor
To me, when I was a kid.

How did you do it all, Mom,
Be a chauffeur, cook and friend,
Yet find time to be a playmate,
I just can’t comprehend.

I see now it was love, Mom
That made you come whenever I'd call,
Your inexhaustible love, Mom
And I thank you for it all.

PS - Moms are hard to get good pictures of - they're always doing something and rarely posing for the camera -- next year maybe we can get some nice 'mom' portraits!

the best albums!

Here's a recent wedding album we put together. These are so fun to make and even more fun for the family to have to relive the wedding day over and over. We hear again and again from our brides that they just love to look through their album and even take it out to show off at work or over lunch with friends (just don't get any food on it!).

Got a wedding coming up? This the kind of album you want! You Deserve Memories Like This!

car guys

I'm one of those guys who likes cars but knows nothing about them. I found this image in the stack from a recent wedding and thought it was pretty cool. The guys were busy souping this one up for their shop - SCR Performance. Perhaps this will be my vice as I become a rich & famous photographer -- a garage full of souped up cars that I know nothing about...haha. I've got some more Audi guys at a wedding later this year, I guess I'd better start learning the language!

reminder...

We photographed a big stage event this weekend and have many thousands of images to go through and we're working the computers as hard as we can to get the images up in record time (most of them already are!) We just upgraded to over 3TB of storage for our weddings, portraits and events (that's geek talk for WOW!) so we're more equipped than ever.

All this plus not being able to publicly post photos from this weekend has slowed down our posts here but we do have one message for everyone out there:

MOTHER'S DAY IS NEXT SUNDAY!!!! Don't forget your mom! If you'd like photographs from a recent session for a gift, please get in touch with us by this Friday!
