The weatherman was right!

Well how about this? Seems like we've been cheated on the snow a little this year so while it's postponed some meetings for us today, I'm happy to see us finally get some nice snow. We're forward to making some family portraits in it soon! Any 2011 seniors want to get started early and break the snowboard out? ;)

Big storm on the way! Maybe...

The not-so-reliable weather forecasters think we're about to get some significant snowfall...what's your bet? ;)
I'm thinking that if we do get some snow, this might be one of your last opportunities of the year for fun family portraits in the snow!



And how about this? Instead of the same old stiff family portraits, let's have some fun -- how about actually having fun with your portrait session?! Running around in the snow, laughing, hugging and maybe even a snowball fight?

The Thorn rehearsal - part 2

The Thorn - dress rehearsal

Thursday night I got to help out my friend Ted Mehl from A Better Image Photography photograph 'The Thorn' dress rehearsal at New Life Church. I remember having heard about this play for years and have had many friends be a part of it yet have never made it to a show so this was a pretty exciting opportunity to see what it was all about as well as enjoy the special access from being part of the official photography crew!

pre-deployment portraits - Colorado Springs family portrait photographer

After photographing the 1-68 Armor Battalion ball last week, we had the chance to get to meet some of the soldiers' families for some mini-portrait sessions. We're so thankful to these soldiers for bravely serving overseas and to the families for keeping the home fires burning for so many months. One of the wives dismissed our admiration saying 'It's our pleasure. We know what we signed up for!' Here's to the soldiers & families of the 1-68 Armor. We look forward to seeing you all back safely next year!

Thank you? No...THANK YOU!!! - Colorado Springs military event photographer

At the end of January we photographed the departure ceremony for the 193rd Military Police Battalion in Castle Rock. We made photographs of the ceremony events as well as quick portraits of the families afterwards and gave them all away. Yesterday we were honored to receive this certificate of appreciation from the 193rd.

While it's an honor to be recognized and even more of an honor to be able to do something of value for these soldiers and their families, it's pretty humbling as well. These soldiers are headed to Afghanistan where they'll be protecting our freedom and guarding terrorist prisoners...the only reaction I can think of here is 'no...THANK YOU!' Here's to the soldiers and their families. Thank you for your sacrifice, we honor you and we can't wait to photograph your homecoming ceremony!

Biscuits and Berries catering at Mile High Station -Denver wedding photographer

Our friend Laura from Biscuits and Berries called us up the other day hoping we could spare a little time on Valentine's Day Eve to photograph a stunning wedding they were decorating and catering at Mile High Station. Mile High Station is such a unique venue that I love to photograph and Biscuits and Berries is second to none when it comes to awesome food and classy presentation so we jumped at the chance knowing it would be portfolio work for all three of us!

Here's an image of Mile High Station from a previous wedding we photographed there....the windows here allow tons of natural light in the evening which makes it so great to photograph:



Biscuits and Berries set out enormous king's tables and decorated them with fresh red roses and candied apples. It looked like something out of Alice in Wonderland!







One of the really great features of Mile High Station is the second floor balcony...great for cocktail hour, entertaining large parties and aerial shots like this:



The bar on the main floor was a great place to set up the cake, which was decorated like a train. Some Chinese lanterns hung from above and I loved the idea to string up the invitation responses where family and friends had penned cute pieces of marriage advice on the cards.









Carving the bride and groom's name in a tree trunk accentuated the woodsy altar with aspen trees and Christmas lights:



Of course, all the decorations don't matter much unless there is some mouth-watering fare to put on the plates so here is a sampling of the lineup:









And finally...I was able to stop a few of the friendly staff for a photograph....great job guys, see you next time!

Mark Schultz live in concert - Colorado Springs event photographer

Friday night we got to see Christian recording artist Mark Schultz in concert at Rocky Mountain Calvary.



Mark put on a great show and we especially enjoyed hearing the stories of the inspiration for his songs and his life experience. We got to meet Mark in the VIP room and make photographs of Mark visiting with the guests.
