a weekend away!

Wow...we've been photographing weddings every weekend for I can't remember how long now! September was our busiest month yet but we were very fortunate to have this last weekend off and the timing couldn't have been more perfect because the aspen trees were at their peak color up in the mountains. We grabbed the kids and hit the road Saturday and were treated to perfect weather and beautiful colors.

September 22 wedding at Denver Botanical Gardens

Last year we received a call from one of our favorite wedding planners in Denver who was ready to contract us for her own wedding. 'You're the only ones I've looked at' she told us 'You guys just get it!' Wow! This is coming from someone who's worked with many of the top photographers in Denver and here we were...#1 on her list. We knew this was going to be a great wedding too so we couldn't wait! The wedding date came last weekend and here are some of our favorite images:

Fun engagement session!

We're super excited for Scott & Jenie's wedding later next month because it will be one of the most unique and relaxed weddings all year, completely centered on this couple that is totally in love and at ease with one another.

We met on the 16th Street Mall in downtown Denver recently and just walked around, goofing off and laughing and these are some of my favorite takes:

September 8 wedding at Pinecrest

Last weekend we took the short trip up to Palmer Lake for Jessica & Trevor's wedding at the historic and scenicPinecrest Event Center. First we'd like to give a big thanks to our clients Aerianne & Chris who referred them to us! Second, it's worth noting how rare it is to get an invitation to photograph at Pinecrest as they have their own in-house photographer. When a couple sees the uniqueness of our work and the great experience we provide and then forgoes the photographer that comes with the location, we're quite flattered!

We started the day with the girls getting ready at Via Bella Salon


Jessica chose some unique shoes to match her unique personality:




We're always careful to capture important details like this cameo Jessica wore around her neck...it's been worn for generations in her family on each woman's wedding day!

The grassy woods behind the chapel provided a perfect mountain retreat for our portrait session and the newlyweds took in their first moments with each other in peace:




We had fun playing around with our portrait session and Jessica really got her dress spinning!




The wedding party walked down from the chapel to the reception hall with mountains in the background...what a view!




The cake was from Homestyle Bakery in Grand Junction and it was a beautiful fall theme with icing for leaves...yummy!

Awesome sunset over Pike's Peak

We made some terrific engagement portraits yesterday at Palmer Park. Anyone who drives up to the Grand Overlook parking area at the top around sunset is treated to one of the best views of Colorado Springs and we had a terrific sunset to top it off last night. I'll post some of my favorite takes from the session soon but for now, here's reason number 385 that we choose to live in Colorado!

September 1 wedding at Castle Glen Eyrie

September weather is so incredible in Colorado that it has consistently been our top wedding month. This year is no exception and we are completely booked in September. Our first wedding of the month kicked it off with class and style and the historic Castle Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs.




The day was picture perfect and we felt so secluded on the sprawling castle grounds.





"best dress ever!!" the bride exclaimed. The bridal party had a beautiful and spacious suite where we hung out for a few hours as they got ready and we made preparation photographs.





The bride made pretty pearl necklaces for each of the bridesmaids.

We took time for some romantic portraits after the ceremony. The bride & groom's initials were spelled out in flower petals in the grass.





The groom was a car nut so he has the Audi and his gorgeous Italian bride is of course the Ferrari with a veil!





They danced the night away in the grand ballroom.

Tribute to our troops...

Today is a great day to reflect on the men and women of the US armed forces and the sacrifice they're making to keep our country safe. I thought it would be an opportune time to post a link to this great slide show of a military homecoming in Kearney, Nebraska. The photos and slide show were donated by several photographers in that community.

I need to make 2 things very clear here:

1) these are NOT my photos -- my great friend Todd who owns his own studio also named Image Factory Photography in Kearney, Nebraska organized the photography and created the slide show.
2) I'm really behind in posting this -- the event took place August 10 and I regret not posting the link sooner...this is really great stuff and an example of how I hope all our troops are being welcomed when they return. (Anyone in Colorado Springs know of the next Ft. Carson homecoming and want to make this happen here?)
